Job Title: Montessori Younger Elementary Lead Guide
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full-time, Salaried, August through May, Benefits
Requirement: Montessori Elementary Training/Certification
Job Summary:
The Younger Elementary Lead Guide directs their students’ activities as a whole being (academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically) in a prepared Montessori environment that promotes the development of each child to reach their fullest potential, in accordance with Montessori philosophy and procedures for the 6 to 9 year age group.
Essential Duties:
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Guiding students and assistants

Maintain the prepared environment (classroom environment, materials and equipment; ensuring that all materials are in good repair and all sets complete, the room is prepared and tidy, develop and make materials when needed)

Self care, preparation, and professional development through continuing education, conferences, personal reading, etc.

Plan and implement the Montessori curriculum giving appropriate presentations and establishing a record keeping system to track the children’s progress

Supervise the classroom assistant/s, substitutes, and parent volunteers

Promote good communication among staff members and facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and grace and courtesy lessons

Stay within the classroom budget every year, being fiscally responsible with funds

Ensure respectful and open lines of communication with parents, being available to parents through written communication, setting up conferences, and educating parents in the Montessori philosophy

Regular updates with parents, building community and parent education (i.e. monthly updates, sharing observations and/or anecdotal examples with explanation)

Plan and host parent education events about twice a year

Assist in the planning and maintenance of the outdoor environment to ensure a prepared environment

Assess prospective children when they visit the school
-
Provide first aid as needed and complete the appropriate forms for parents

Attend all faculty meetings and scheduled staff events, education programming committee meetings, trainings, and in-service days

Be a community leader, responsible for the school and its well-being as a whole

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Pass Background Checks

Provide PRAIRIE HILL with annual Health Report (supplied by Health Department)

Obtain/maintain CPR/First Aid certifications

Participate in Child Abuse and Neglect trainings offered (or complete training on their own time within six months if not able to attend)

Agree to conform to and support the purposes, policies, and philosophy of PRAIRIE HILL as set out in the staff handbook

Respect the professional and personal information of children and adults (this includes not using names or photos on personal social media without permission)
