PRAIRIE HILL Learning Center

This page belongs to the eight adolescents at PRAIRIE HILL Learning Center. 

This year two of our Montessori teachers will be taking us to New York City to take part in the Montessori Model United Nations or the MMUN.  We will be going in the beginning of March.  It will cost between $10,000 and $12,000 dollars for all of us to be able to go on the trip.  At the bottom of this page there is a button that you can click on to donate money.

            For the MMUN, we will have the chance to meet children from different Montessori schools from around the world.  Each school will represent a different country.  We will be representing Vietnam.  While we are in New York City, we will be able to meet real ambassadors from Vietnam.   The MMUN lasts three days.  On the first day, we will be writing resolutions, caucusing, and making speeches.  On the last day, we will vote on our resolutions.  We will use the voting devices in the General Assembly Chamber that the real ambassadors in the United Nations use.   This is the last year that the students that take part in the MMUN will be able to vote in the General Assembly Chamber.   The sub-committees that we will be learning about are some of the real committees that the United Nations uses.  They are UNESCO, the First Committee of the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the World Bank.

            We have fundraised a bit of money already.  We still need to fundraise a lot more.  We have sold hand-made tie-dyed shirts, done child care, and applied for grants.

            We hope to get many things out of this trip.  We hope to have lots of fun.  We will be learning about the United Nations and international politics.  We will get a chance to practice speaking in front of large groups.  Our teacher has been giving us lessons and speeches about the UN and its committees.  All of us are really excited to be able to go to New York City.  None of us have ever gone there before. 

            When we get back, we are going to give a presentation about what we did in New York and what we enjoyed.
